Random thoughts: protecting our water ways (true story)

Charles County Sheriff’s Department

I apologize up front for the poor quality of this photo. I have a thirteen mega pixel camera on my phone, which normally takes very good pictures. I believe the bright sky and sun reflecting off the water was the problem.
When I noticed this boat coming through the marina I knew I had to write about it. I didn’t know what, but I knew I was going too.
As I was taking the first couple of pictures the driver stopped and put it in reverse, so we could talk. I told them I was going to blog about this. The cop on the left asked me, “What is the name of your blog?”
I told him, “From my Head to Yours.” He then pulled his phone out and I thought, this is too cool. He’s looking up my brand new blog right here, on the spot. “Type in jfmcdonaldjr.com and that should take you right to it.” I started taking more pictures, to make sure I got at least one good one. Lot of good that did.
We Americans will walk up to complete stranger and thank them for their service, if they are dressed in some kind of military uniform. I go out of my way to do that, all the time. And I tell them as I’m shaking their hands, “Thank you for protecting me, my freedom and my way of life.” Then I leave them to their life, but I make sure they know, I appreciate them, personally.
For the past two years, I have done the same with police officers. I tell them, “Thank you for protecting me, right here where I live at and please be careful out there.” There is no way I could do there job or would I want to try.
It embarrasses me as an American, living in the best country in the world, for the way our men and women in blue are treated. I want them to know I got their back. They deserve every bit of respect we can muster. When I saw these three men in green, on this very powerful machine I rushed to get this picture and to thank them for their service.
When, I use to drink and drug, I tried not cross their paths. However, I often did and sometimes I would get arrested. I never once held any ill will toward them, because I was always the one in the wrong.
As I was walking away, I realized that I was wearing my trusty ole Skin hat. I then turned back to them, raised my hands in the air and yelled, “Hail to the Redskins!” Then left.

Random thoughts: Growing Together (true story)

Sitting at our local Starbucks in La Plata, MD., I noticed an elderly couple walk in, ordered some drinks and sat at a table. I’m an outgoing person and I’ll talk to anyone in earshot. They were too far away to say anything, so I just watched them, whenever I took a break from my laptop.

They interested me, so I took a break from writing and studied them instead. People watching is an unexpected pleasure I get, while I sit in the friendly confines of the air conditioned atmosphere.

I would guess they were close to the eighties, if not in them. She had her right arm in a cast, so he gently held her left elbow as he ever so slowly guided her toward the table. He made sure she was comfortable, before he went to get their drinks and napkins. I overheard him tell the barista, “Can you pour a little out of this one and put this much ice in it? This one’s for my wife.” As he said that he held up his right thumb and forefinger with about an inch and a half distance between them.

The barista said, “Of course. Hope you all are staying cool in this heat.”

“Yeah, we like coming here, because it’s so pleasant.” He took the drinks to the table and sat across from her using very calculated movements. I could tell almost every action he made was for her convenience. They seemed to be the same age, but it was apparent he had more life in his bones than she did. It was obvious he cared for her very much.

Every action she made was slow and deliberate, no wasted energy. I noticed from her gingerly movements, that she was either very ill or too old to move any quicker.

Finished with their drinks he cleaned and straighten the table as she sat. He then helped her up and before they headed to the car he took the time to push the chair in. When he was helping her into the car, that’s when I noticed they both had light blue shirts, tan pants and the same colored loafers. Both of them had the same completion, height, weight, hair color and they dressed a like. Were they that similar, when they met or did they grow that way?

Random thoughts: Independence Day (true story)

Happy Independence Day to all my fellow Americans. Thanks to our founding fathers of the original 13 states, we seceded from the British in 1776 to form our very own country. The UNITED States of America. I am very proud to be an American.

Random thoughts: The Native American

As an American, who loves my country. I have to admit: I hate what we did to the Native American, we came here and took what wasn’t ours, their land, their country. At the same time we enslaved another culture of people, while we were declaring our freedom and independence from England. I sure hope we learn from our mistakes and don’t get what we deserve. Please Lord God forgive us and protect us from our enemies.
