Your 3 words, my little story: Julie’s words – meditation, sunshine and happiness

Remember, my three word stories are fiction and should not be confused with the truth.

Lisa and Bandit about 2010

I was trying to meditate, while on the phone with my ex-girlfriend Lisa and a friend said, “Jim, you’re not doing it right.”

Realizing she meant I was not meditating right, I asked her, “How should I do it then?”

She said, “Meditation is different with everyone. Here’s how I do it: I find a calm place to sit, I am aware of my body and feel my breath, but more importantly I do this alone and not on the phone arguing with an ex.”

“Oh.”

“It sounds like you were counting to ten and trying to calm down.”

“Yeah, I guess so. I tend to get a little depressed when there’s no sunshine also, and that didn’t help.”

Later that night I was thinking of what my friend said and decided to try it her way, because lately I haven’t felt much happiness. I really don’t know if it helped or not. Guess it did, because I felt a little calmer. I was about to try it again the next night, when the phone rang. The caller ID said, “Lisa.” I thought for a ring or two, then decided not to answer. I felt calmer with that simple decision and ended up not meditating.

I didn’t get much sleep that night thinking of what Lisa wanted to say, but I did dream a little. The dream had her begging to get back together and she would to do anything I wanted. Needless to say that didn’t help my blood pressure.

How ya like my hat? – welder glasses hat

Hi guys,

It has been awhile since I posted a ‘How ya like my Hat?’ photo and story. Here’s my latest.

I was wearing my newest hat, while visiting my grandson in San Diego, when I was approached by a man with a request that seemed a little odd to me.

White Plains Flea Market

He said, “I am producing a film called, Strange Things you see on the Street”. I saw you and thought, “You might fit that title.”

I replied with, “Are you calling me strange?”

“No, but your hat is.”

“Oh” then paused for a moment and said, “You are the first person on the west coast that talked to me other than my grandson and your comment took me by surprise. However, I am from the east coast and people that know me say I am strange, weird and a little crazy. You made me feel right at home. Thank you.”

Then I noticed a lady checking me out and attentively listening to the conversation, so I nodded at her and said, “Hi.”

She smiled, got real close and said, “I like your hat. Can I have it?” She put her arm through my arm, batted the biggest brown eyes and kissed me on the cheek.

Well, anyone that knows me, knows at that point I am ready to do almost anything she wanted, but before I could respond the dude said, “Wait, wait, wait. I might have a spot for you in my movie, you can be a star. Although, it is predicated on you wearing that hat, dressed the way you are and keeping that unshaven look.

Brown eye said, “I am a very friendly girl. Can we talk a trade of some sort?”

I thought movie, money and fame, then looked at the brown eyed girl and thought, “A bird in the hand is worth…”

Shopping for CHRISTmas gifts

I will be set-up at the Golden Beach Fire Department on Saturday December 4th from 10 am to 3 pm and Thomas Stone High School on Sunday December 5th at the same hours, just in time for CHRISTmas shopping.

My set-up at Benedict Fire Department

I know people do not flock to poetry and it is hard to understand most poetry, not mine. I am at the end of ‘Modern American Literature: 1914 to 1945” at University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) right now. We are studying writers such as Ernest Hemmingway and Langston Hughes among many others. Hughes writes in a frank and distinct manner often using metaphors and similes to evoke an image in the readers mind. My poetry is easier than that. It is straight to the point and it tells how life changed this alcoholic and addict into a sober poet. My auto biography is told through twenty-five poems and my personal photos.

Turkey Hill Park sales

Sunday, was another good day for me. Sold eleven books and a shirt.

My good friend, Becki, happened by and bought my shirt. This was my first shirt ever sold. Next shirts will have the photo on the back and JFM Creates in the front

It was a good day for the Houseboat Poet. Combining Saturday and Sunday’s sales came to twenty books and a shirt.

Other than lunch, almost every dollar goes back into my table, so now I offer bags and this time of year calls for CHRISTmas bags with tissue paper. The lady in the above photo wanted to buy a bag, I have no idea what to charge for a bag. Believe I offered to give her one, but she bought my book for the bag. That’s kind of funny.

People often say, “I’ll come back”, but rarely do. That makes since, because it might be difficult to say, “I’m not interested”. Over the whole weekend five people came back. Thank you for that.

It was a great day and weekend combined, but now I have to rest my feet. Put a lot of steps in both days

Benidict Fire Department

I will be selling and signing my books of poetry at the Benedict Fire Department today from 9am to 2pm. I will be joined by 39 other vendors and all will give you excellent CHRISTmas gift ideas.

This photo is at Gray’s Nursery earlier in the year.

Come out and see us. I have a 90 second spill that will tell you about my poetry.
