Past

I have this memory of my sister tumbling down the basement stairs. I was standing at the top of the thirteen steps, watching Debbie fall and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I was supposed to be watching her, because she was only one. That made me the responsible one at seven years old. I wasn’t sure of the memory, so I asked Debbie her opinion. She told me, “Mom said Aunt Bernice caught me before I fell.” Watching her fall never actually happened, I guess a terrible vision got burned into mind of what could have happened, because of my irresponsibility. I guess some our strongest memories never happened. Our mind is a powerful vehicle.

Present

I wanted to try a new writing spot at the Marina and I’m at it now. Love the new spot, it’s under a tent right on the river with a great view. As a matter of fact I just watched a duck dive and come up with a small perch hanging out of its choppers. I have my phone tuned to a great Blues station to help me relax. Good music, good breeze and I hope good writing. I have several spots here at the Marina, other than this one.

My houseboat is the easiest and my favorite, because I can send everything through the window: computer, water and food. When I get up there, then I can set up shop by: opening the patio umbrella, pull out my convenient container full of all the stuff that I may or may not need. Plug in the radio and write.

Another is on the east side of the boatel at a picnic table, but that’s in the sun with no protection from the rays or glare.

Plans

My plans today are simple, a good friend of mine smokes the best ribs in La Plata, probably Charles County or the state. Earlier in the week he took some orders for the Labor Day weekend and I have a slab of his great ribs coming in few hours for twenty dollars. Guess what I’ll be doing when they get here. Oh and he is delivering them to my boat

Past

Dad rented a small garden area from the Morgan’s, just outside from the suburbs of Lanham, Maryland. Whenever us kids heard we were going to the Morgan’s, we didn’t know if we were in for a good ole country cookout and games or to work in the garden.

This one particular day it was just me and dad going and I figured we were going to work in the dirt. Once we were there, I was given a huge surprise. A tractor.

My first driving experience was on an old Allis-Chalmers tractor. I was sitting on dads lap, while he controlled the peddles. He probably controlled the steering too. I was so proud to be his son.

I think dad paid for our garden spot, by plowing and disking the fields. He might have drank a lot, but he sure did work.

Present

I went to a local Senior Center to get help from the state with my energy bill. While I was there I was given a tour of the place. I was very impressed with the cleanliness and all the activities offered, so I joined free of charge.

Pool tables, gym equipment, dining hall and many more. The ones I just mentioned are free as a member.

Plans

Thursday I’m going to help my buddy work on his autobiography, but before that he wants to join the Senior Center.

Past

I was seven, when me and dad were on our way to a farm-lot that he rented. We just crossed route four fifty, when dad handed me his beer.

I can’t remember what he said, but I do remember what he wanted. I tipped the can up on my bottom lip for a swallow, then turned to my open window and spit it out.

To this day I don’t know if I spit it out, because of the taste of beer or because it was a Schlitz.

Present

Me and Matt went to a few yard sales and flee markets yesterday. Matt is eighty seven and normally sits in the car, while I search for what ever is on my list.

He says he just likes to get out of the house. Often, I feel the same way. With my continual lack of funds, I know if I don’t go anywhere I can’t spend any money. Also my living arrangements don’t allow me much room to store things. So when I go out it’s for a specific need.

We put together a specific route of six places, with information I gathered from ‘Craigslist’. We started at eight o’clock in the morning and returned home three hours later by eleven.

I saved my favorite place for second to the last, that way the route was a nice circle. COPD was taking a big toll by the time I was in ‘Hidden Treasures’ and I almost passed out. I spent three dollars and gas and was able to spend some quality time with Matt.

I can’t do the little things anymore and yard sales are a passion. Smoking cigarettes, pot and other drugs are finally taking it’s toll. I’m only sixty two.

Plans

If I had a hundred thousand dollars, I would pay off my ten thousand dollars of debt, buy a better houseboat or a little house I know of in Tennessee and write. If I had a million dollars I would do the same, but I would add a vehicle that is good on gas.

Past

I was six, when dad took me to my first baseball game. It was at Griffith Stadium in Washington, DC. That was the Senator’s team that moved to Minnesota in 1960.

We had some good players, but Harmon Killebrew was the one to watch. I was too young to be much of a fan, however an afternoon with dad was special. Popcorn was sold in a funnel shaped piece of thin cardboard and once you were finished with it you could tear the bottom off of the funnel and have a makeshift megaphone. My only memory of the game was yelling Killebrew through the piece of paper, while dad egged me on.

Good memory

Present

It was a good weather day, but I still did not walk. No appointments of any sort, so I stayed in and saved money. My neighbor got evicted today and that makes four that left, in the two years I’ve been here. Two of their own accord and two were forced to leave.

Plans

I remembered today, that when I write something in WordPress and share it on Twitter, I should hashtag certain groups. So I hash tagged: #shortstory #storytelling #write #books and a few others. I had immediate success with several likes and a few new followers. I will do the same thing with my poetry, by adding #poetry and #poem.

Past

My dad grabbed me by my right arm and forced me from the back yard to the bath room. Inside the bathroom he put me over his knee, held me tight and spanked me till I cried.

The reason he did that was, because earlier in the day I fault with my brother George, till blood shot from his face. Mom said it squirted above my head.

A week later some kids from the hill were going to beat George up, but I stepped in and ran them off. It wasn’t as easy as I made it sound, but they got up from the ground and left.

I loved my brother, however he is no longer with us. He died at the age of thirty.

Present

Yesterday the dentist pulled number twenty three out of my jaw. That’s in the lower front section of my mouth.

The actual procedure didn’t hurt as much as the pain I built up in my head. The tooth had to go. Of course I felt the first shot, the second and the third one, but nothing after that. However, I saw her sneak a pair of pliers in my mouth and I could tell she grabbed my wiggly tooth. I watched her twist it to the left, to the right, back to the left and then to right and out. Watching her twist it was freaky.

Plans

I would like to move down to Tennessee and live there for the rest of my life. I might have an opportunity to do that and buy a nice little house in the suburbs.
