Looking For Tips

I’m looking for adverstising tips

I’m an Indie author, and I’m starting to advertise daily on my Facebook business page. Jim McDonald Writes at https://www.facebook.com/poetryandmorewords , I’m going to implement new techniques to my advertising.

My book sales are on a https://amazon.com/author/jimmcdonaldjr , vendor market tables and I’m now asking for book signings at local used book stores.

Do you have any information, of how I can get my new loves into the hands of new readers?

I believe I told you guys, that I sold sixteen of my books, Twilight to Son Shine, at the Charles County Arts Fest, on the tenth of June. It was held on the grounds of the Town Hall in La Plata. MD, which is the county seat. Three of the following photos are from that day and the last one was at a doctors office earlier that week.

I saw County Commissioner Ken Robinson of Charles County walking across the parking lot that day. He looked busy, but he took the time to stop by my table and listen to my spiel. We chatted for a bit about everything and nothing. Before he left, he bought my book and posed for a picture.

I had the pleasure of meeting President County Commissioner Peter Murphy, while he was eating a sub on the steps of Town Hall. Being the uncouth person that I am, I disturbed his lunch. Actually, I think he finished shortly before I introduced myself. I gave him my spiel and he bought my book without hesitation.

Afterwards, we chatted about his background as a teacher and my background as a carpenter. At some point he asked me, “What made you decide to become a writer?”

I replied with, “I couldn’t work as a carpenter anymore, because I got sick with COPD. After losing my job, home and my will to live, I turned to a friend who guided me to help. With the depression somewhat in check, I found a way to go to CSM (College of Southern Maryland) and take courses to become a writer. Now, I write about my feelings and past indiscretions as a form of therapy.”

“Job well done….” He said. Shortly after that we parted ways, but I saw him later that evening at an event for ‘Christmas in April’. He told me, “I read your book.”

“Already! All of it? What do you think?”

“I enjoyed it very much. I feel I know you a little better now.”

“Thank you….”

Laurie and Lori stopped by, when they noticed me at my table. We chatted about friends, life and of course my book. I like it when I can stand between two pretty women. They also walked a way with a book. It was a good day.

I met Patty, while she was taking my blood. Having blood sucking vampires in my life is commonplace as of late. My normal practice is to look away and talk while they’re sticking the needle in my arm. With Patty, I talked about my book. She said, “ I want one.” so I fronted her a book and came back the next day to get the money. She gave me this ticket redeemable for ten dollars then asked me, “Do you have another one? Because Debbie wants one.”

So I went outside and returned with another book, then left with a big smile on my face. I had a picture taken of Debbie and I, but I can’t find it. Sorry.

Thank you everyone, for buying my book.

The three following photos were taken after my first Open-Mic Night at Urban Bar-B-Que in La Plata, Md.

The first is Marsha and her friend Charlie. Marsha was nice enough to come to the show and make sure I had a friend in the audience, so I wouldn’t be so nervous. That was nice of her. Her and Charlie both bought books.

Jane works at the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) as a physical education instructor. She actually runs that department. It was nice to see another smiling friendly face in the crowd. That’s her husband and he actually shelled out the money for my book.

My poetry reading was sandwiched between four musical artist. These two young guys were in the second band. They played some excellent rock & roll. They really rocked the house. It surprised me when they walked over and bought a book. Too cool!

This guy is a photographer for the Maryland Independent and he was at the Market Place Event, which was held at the Old Port Tobacco Court House. He succumbed to my hard sell.

My best bud Raymond, was the first to buy my book. He bought it through Amazon and also left an excellent review on their site. I wasn’t able to get a picture of Raymond, the book and myself, till last night. Here’s the picture.

He was the first person to touch my book, excluding the packers.

Suzanne was my latest vampire. When someone takes my blood, I try to hide my nervousness by talking to them. I was giving her the hard sell and after she took all the vials she needed, I gave her a book and came back the next day for the money.

When I came back, Suzanne asked, ‘Do you have another book with you?”

I said, ”Yes.”

She said, “Good, because Debbie want’s one.”

I said, “Cool!” I went out to the van, got a book for Debbie, then came back in for my picture, money and hug. I walked out with a big smile brought on by the simplest of gratitudes.

It’s been a while since I worked this hard for such a small amount of money. The promotion of the book is really important to me. Eventually my book is going to fall into the hands of someone with the resources to promote it beyond my abilities.

Thank you guys for buying my book.

Maggie Joyner

Maggie bought my book at Maries Diner in La Plata, MD. and also came out to support me at my first book signing on my birthday, May 20th, at Market Day.

While at the diner, she bought a $60 fundraising ticket from me. It’s for the Christmas in April * Charles County annual Sunset at Mount Aventine gala. On June 10th Christmas in April will officially become Rebuilding Together. The board members are very excited about the change and we hope you will come out and meet us. You can gather with us for tasty refreshments, mingling and a couple of special guest speakers, that should to peak your interest on some current events.

This is my mechanic and neighbor and he purchased my book as soon as he heard that it was published. I’m standing in a hole and he is standing on a cinder block. 😊 Not really.

I asked this attractive lady to take a picture of me and a happy customer and after she took the picture she asked, “Can you tell me about the book?” I’m learning how to be a salesman and shortly after she took the picture, she gave $10 for my book. Very nice lady.

We also have my good friend Bruce. He helped me on Market Day by handling the money and watching the table while I was away from it. He also sold a book when I was food hunting, so it seems he was perfect for the job.

Thank you guys for buying my book!
