Dr. K’s words: boy, dog & shoe

3-2-09-9-bandit

Bandit at fourteen years old

The dog destroyed the boy’s shoe. I feel this sentence would be cheating, so here’s the story.

Doctor K was afraid of dogs ever since he was a little BOY. He never shook the fear that came with the terrifying DOG bite, fifty two years ago. The bite was deep into his right ankle and the dog wouldn’t let go, until the boy’s mom hit the dog with a bat. Then the mutt’s long sharp bloody teeth let go of his flesh, so painful for the frightened eight year old.

It was 1962 when his mom took him to the Wilson clinic that fall. A memory that will never be forgotten by Dr. K or his mom. Back then Sloan barely had a post office, so his mom had to travel an hour to get help. She wrapped his wound as tight as he would let her, but by the time they got there, the poor boys blood was all over the car seat. She realized later she could have put some newspaper under his leg, but who would blame her for not thinking about the car seat. All she wanted to do was get him to the doctor.

Not knowing whether the dog had rabies or not, steps would have to be taken to prevent further infection. The dog was nowhere to be found, so while the nurse was taking his SHOE off, the doctor was preparing to give the boy a series of shots. The doctor didn’t hide the needle very well, so when the kid saw it, he started crying. He yelled, “I just got bit by a huge mutt, now you want to stick that into me.”

Kristian’s words: whale, land & fight

Kristian loved boating, but was not necessarily fond of fishing. She thought it was too messy and she didn’t want to FIGHT for her dinner. So she normally wouldn’t go, unless it was all fun and no work. She thought the act of fishing was work and might not be safe for her kids.

Oscar asked her, “Come on Kris, you and the twins will be safe and have a great time. They’ll be safe, I promise.”

“What’s for dinner tonight.?”

“Hopefully Tuna.” However, all she wanted to do was sunbath, while her friend trolled for the big one. She didn’t bring the little ones on this trip, that way she could relax knowing they wouldn’t fall overboard.

With his rod in the water and a Tuna Witch on the hook, the fun was set to begin. It was hours before they saw anything on the fish finder and Kris was tired of the water and ready for some LAND.

Finally the captain yelled, “Fish on!” Oscar jumped up, grabbed his rod and pulled it back to him as hard as he could. When he went forward with it, the blue fin tuna jumped out of the water, as quickly as that happened a marlin jumped up and swallowed it whole.

Joe and the captain were amazed, but what happened next stunned them both. Before the marlin hit the water a shark was quick on its tail and swallowed it whole.

The captain’s jaw dropped, when Kris jumped up started pointing further out in the water and screamed, “What’s that coming this way?”

“Oh crap! It’s a killer WHALE!”

Doctor G’s words: clinic, parking & weather

It looked like rain when Doctor G was PARKING her car. Her and the rest of her office park in the back alley, all the shops do.

The only other parking is in front, most small towns like Sloan have diagonal parking. The bigger the shop, the more parking you have. A large business like the Five & Dime down the street will have more sidewalk footage. The CLINIC, the barber shop and the book store across the street have small footage, the dinner is a little bigger.

When doc was getting out of her car, she saw Betty heading back in the dinner. It’s been a couple of days since they found the body, but for a small town she thought there would be more answers. She didn’t have to be in the office for a half an hour, so why not visit Betty and get some coffee.

She liked sitting around the corner at the counter, so she could watch the comings and goings easier. “Hi Betty.”

“Hi Doc. How’s your love life?”

“Bad, just like the WEATHER looks. Hey, tell me about the stranger.”
“He sat in the corner.” She said, while pointing to a booth next a window. “He ordered the morning special, although he hardly touched it and read the Wilson Gazette. He didn’t say much, but he sure talked on the phone a lot.”

“Wonder who he was talking to?”
“Who knows. He must have made four phone calls, but something was a little strange.”

“What’s so strange about that?”

“That’s not the odd part. Three of the phone calls were on the pay phone, but the one on his cell phone got heated.”

Butches words: sunshine, submarine & smartass

Butch and a few of his cousin’s were hanging out on the deck telling stories and enjoying the SUNSHINE, when out of no where it started to rain. Not just a little, but it was pouring. Within seconds everything that wasn’t in the cooler was soaking wet.

Butch said, “We can take our clothes off and get our weekly showers in.”

Carolyn said, “You SMARTASS, lets just go inside and dry ourselves off.”

The only one that had any sense was Jim, because he said, “let’s order a pizza.”

Butch said, “What will y’all eat? One is enough for me.”

About that time little Johnny ran outside with a boat, SUBMARINE and a match box car. “Uncle Butch, how about you, uncle Jimmy and aunt Carolyn split one, then me and Sally can split one.”

“Who’s kid is that?”

“I thought he was yours.”

“Not mine! I know where my kids are at tonight. Do you know where your kids are?”

“I might not know where they are, but they’re smart enough not to stand out in the rain for five minutes discussing pizza.”

Your three words, my little story 8-19-16

Gary’s words: nescience, grandiloquence & unprepossessing

My buddy Gary is an Astrophysicist, so when he gave me these words the first thing I did after I stopped laughing was look them up. WOW!!! This story is kind of long. Sorry, I try to keep them short, but I had fun with this one.

Gary took me to this, out of my league, party the other evening, because his girl friend couldn’t make it. That’s alright, because I’m between girlfriends right now anyway. Walking up to the door, he told me, “You might not know anyone here, but you should have fun. If nothing else, the food is always great.”

I’m dressed in my shorts, polo shirt and flip flops, well it’s a party. He’s dressed in jeans, button down shirt and tennis shoes. He knocked on door and we waited to be escorted to the gathering. After walking through the foyer and into the room I noticed women in gowns and men in tuxes. I immediately looked at Gary and he was already staring at me grinning at me from ear to ear. At least he wasn’t in a tux.

I’m not shy, so I accosted the first waiter walking by with a water and then went to the closest man I saw standing by himself and asked him, “What did he think of the game last night?”

He replied, “I’m sorry, but I’m NESCIENCE as to what you are speaking of.” I new right then, I was in for a long night.

Again, I looked at Gary, then turned back to the man and said, “The O’s beat Houston and Davis banged out two dingers.”

“Dingers? What ever do you mean?”

“Going yard, long balls, big fly, you know homeruns in baseball!”

“I know not of this game, baseball!” his indignation was apparent, then he said, “Sir, your attire is quiet UNPREPOSSESSING!”

I said, “Yeah I know, but what can you do?” I had no idea what he said, so I thought his GRANDILOQUENCE made him sound pompous and it reminded me of a politician.

Gary pulled me to the side and asked, “You want to go and leave these bombastic people in our dust? I was pulling your leg a little with this party. I also wanted to see how you would react. You don’t change much. That’s what I like about you”

“Thanks man. It’s easier that way, but I want to talk to her first.” Pointing at this very attractive lady. “Eat, then let’s go play some pool.”
